Collection: Fish Out of Water

These paintings tackle time and memory. Just like old friends and loved ones lost, ships have their own unique story.  I see adventures and stormy seas, vast blue skies and gentle salt breezes when I gaze at these crooked old ships. Few know the full story from first to last but we are lucky to know but a part of the journey. Dilapidated but still proud, the boats become part of the oceans they once tread, melting away into the vast saga that is the sea.

Many of Rand’s paintings depict fishing boats getting repaired and repainted at Portland Ship Yard on the Fore River near West End.
